Perched on the North coast of Cornwall, the coastal town of Newquay is one of the UKs best loved beach resorts. Originally a fishing port called Towan Blistra, a new quay was built in the 15th century which gave the town its current name. Newquay attracts around 100,000 holidaymakers each summer, and there are plenty of places for them to stay - from holiday parks to guesthouses and high end hotels.

One of the things people love most about Newquay is its beaches; which are famous for their cleanliness and activities on offer. There is four beaches in total, and when the tide is low they connect together and make up around a mile of golden sand where visitors can relax, play or enjoy a spot of surfing. Surfing is a huge part of Newquays culture, with many of the worlds best surfers descending on Fistral Beach every year for surfing competitions or the Boardmasters festival. Waves can reach up to 40 feet high and have been described as death-defying.

The beach shown in our poster design is Towan Beach. This is the closest to the town at the bottom of a steep hill, and its prime location makes it extremely popular in the summer months. One of the most unusual sights you will see at Towan Beach is a small house perched on top of a large rock, known as The Island Accessed view a suspension bridge from the mainland, the house is rented out as a holiday home for tourists to experience possibly the ultimate beach house that offers amazing views over the coast.
