As the largest (and probably one of the best known) island in Thailand, Phuket has grown to become a destination for idyllic tropical beaches and lively town culture. The Phuket weather is usually best between November and April when it's hot and dry. The rest of the year is dubbed 'monsoon season' when the island becomes very wet and stormy.
Holidays to Phuket revolve around nature, food and fun.Ibiza has even gotten in on island life, with the famous Cafe Del Mar opening a club on Kamala beach. Here you can enjoy a more raucous beach experience with world class DJs, Sunday brunch and high end cabanas to relax in.
Many tourists also choose to visit an elephant sanctuary during their holiday to Phuket, which provide gentle giants with an escape from poor conditions or hard labour. The sanctuaries allow visitors to interact with the animals in a safe and ethical way, such as feeding or cleaning, and offer the opportunity to make a donation towards their care.
If you're a major foodie, head to Phuket Town and you'll be entering the home the island's best night markets and a Street food mecca. There are several different kinds of marketing happening throughout the week from bohemian to cultural or tourist souvenirs. Don't forget to bring your best bartering skills!
One of the most famous spots in Phuket is James Bond Island (real name Koh Ta-pu) in Phang Nga Bay, made famous in 1974 on The Man With The Golden Gun. Another spot that visitors flock to in this area is Koh Panyee, a village built on stilts guarded by a large vertical rock. Tourists can visit on day trips to shop, eat, drink and marvel at how wooden and concrete piles have been engineered to create this unique community.
