Pura Lempuyang Bali postcard
Have you ever wondered what the gates of heaven will look like? Welcome to the ancient Hindu temple of Pura Lempuyang. This is one of the most sacred places to worship in Bali as well as one of the most Instagrammed places on the island, and there’s a LOT of competition for both of those titles!
Open seven days a week (the best time to visit is very early doors, arriving ahead of the 7am opening time) and about two hours away from Ubud, make sure you leave a full day to travel and experience this landmark in all its glory. Oh, and don’t forget your sarong (or be prepared to rent one on arrival) which is customary to traditional Indonesian culture.
Aside from the iconic gates, the rest of the template is pretty spectacular too, ones that aren’t shared as frequently across social media. divided into three sections which correspond to Balinese cosmology, you’ll be surrounded by other spectacular pieces of majestic architecture and lush green gardens once you make it to the top of Mount Lempuyang where the temple is based. Local legend suggests that visitors should never complain when making the climb – if you complain, it is said, you will not make it all the way up.
Just when you thought Bali couldn’t offer any more to make photographers and travel bloggers go nuts, and bam, here it is.
