It may be the smallest capital city in the EU but Valleta, Malta more than makes up for size with its beauty and culture. So much so, that in 1980 it was declared a UNESCO world heritage site for its historical and cultural value.

The city itself is but on a high peninsula between 2 natural harbours (Marsamxett harbour and Grand Harbour) with the streets being designed in a grid like format that allow a sea breeze to circulate and cool during hot weather. The sloped streets are lined with blonde stone buildings housing small shops and cafes, leading down to the stunning Valetta Waterfront. Here you'll find a number of restaurants and bars housed in Old renovated storerooms, where you can enjoy a dining close to the water.

Valetta is practically an open-air museum and has a wealth of historical attractions packed into its tiny space, a massive 320 in total. These include Tritons' Fountain, Lower Barrakka Gardens, the National War Museum and The Grandmasters Palace.

There are also an astonishing 25 churches across the city, including the breath-taking St. John's Co Cathedral. Did you also know that the Valetta has been named as the sunniest city in Europe? Things are definitely looking bright in Malta!
