A visit to the Caribbean island of St. Lucia (the only sovereign nation to be named after a woman) promises a delicious mixture of classic island adventure and tropical relaxation. Described as a cultural melting pot thanks to the distinctive vibes of the North and South of the island ranging from upmarket eateries and glamorous hotels to candy coloured villages and beach front barbeques.

Many of the main tourist hotels in St. Lucia offer all-inclusive packages and amazing service, but you should make sure to get out of your resort and see what the rest of the island really has to offer too. Here, adventure and nature go hand in hand, with many of the activities on offer being in the sea or within the miles of tropical forest. This includes Sulphur Springs, touted as the worlds on drive in volcano. The volcano itself hasn't erupted since the 1700 and these days more like an open-air spa for tourists, who enjoy coating themselves in the natural mud before rinsing off under a rainforest waterfall.

The view in our design is from the beach of Anse des Pitons, which is widely regarded as being the best location in St. Lucia. Sitting between the Gros and Petit Piton peaks, backed by a 100-acre backdrop of tropical forest and with pristine white sands (which are imported from Guyana) its sometimes referred to as sugar beach. The waters in this bay are very calm so are ideal for swimming and snorkelling, and are protected under the St, Lucia National Marine Reserve.
