The temple complex of Angkor Wat is the largest religious structure in the world, covering 400 acres of land and made up of over 1000 buildings. Situated in northern Cambodia, it attracts more than 2.5 million visitors to the site every year; both tourists and religious pilgrims. In the early nineties, Angkor Wat was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site and added to the World Heritage in Dangers list to increase restoration efforts on the area.

The site has a history of stops and starts in the construction process, which lead to it taking around three decades to complete. Originally built to be a funerary temple for Suryavarman II, it was converted into a Buddhist temple at the end of the 12th century. The buildings designs are both grand in their structure from afar and up close, with many visitors marvelling at the intricate detail and decoration. One of the details they're most known for are than more than 3,000 heavenly nymphs (known as apsaras) carved into the walls.

One thing many things visitors flock to Angkor Wat for is the sunrise; which is claimed to be one of the most iconic in the world and the inspiration behind our poster design. The most popular places to see this from are in front of either of the reflection pools; where the majestic buildings are clearly reflected in the water against a backdrop of stunning colour.
