Tucked into the hills of Southwest England between Gloucester and Somerset, the city of Bristol is home to almost 700,000 residents which makes it the 11th largest city in the UK. Originally founded in the Iron Age, Bristol was once the start point for the early voyages of exploration to the New World in the 15th century. A local resident, William Weston, was the first Englishman to lead an expedition to North America.

Its Bristols maritime history that serves as one of the areas main tourist attractions. Iconic steam ship, Brunels SS Great Britain, allows visitors to get hands on with history and experience the sights and smells of times past. Nearby on the harbour side is the M Shed, which holds the story of the city of Bristol from prehistoric times to the present day.

One of Bristols defining monuments is Clifton Suspension Bridge, which is the inspiration behind our poster design. The bridge stretches across the Avon Gorge and over the River Avon, linking Bristol to North Somerset. The bridge opened in 1864 and was designed by Victorian Engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who passed away before it was completed. Even though it was it was designed to carry the light horse traffic of the 19th century, it is able to meet the demand of motor vehicles, with around 12,000 crossing the bridge every day.
