Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, to give the town its full ‘Sunday name’ (or ‘Cham’ as its closest friends like to call it) is a vibrant French town known around the World as a charming place to visit in both the winter and summer months. Bordered by both Switzerland and Italy, with its skyline dominated by the famous Aiguilles de Chamonix mountain chain peaking at the top of Mont Blanc, it was the site of the first ever Winter Olympics back in 1924.

You can get a peek into town life and weather conditions throughout the year courtesy of the live webcams dotted around the area. These allow potential visitors to see parts of town centre, with its beautiful muted-toned buildings, as well as several of the mountain and ski areas it has to offer. It’s not quite ‘try before you buy’ but it comes pretty close.

As well as offering traditional alpine sports, including an incredible amount of off-piste terrain, Chamonix has been dubbed Europe’s capital of extreme sports. But the high-octane fun doesn’t stop there. The area hosts a pretty jam-packed events schedule year-round which includes the Alpine Skiing World Cup, ice hockey matches, the Chamonix Marathon, Chamonix Adventure Festival and more.

Like many of the more popular ski resorts, Chamonix’s streets are crammed full of fabulous shops representing both local and international brands. Also, like many of the other resorts, it has a great après ski scene well worth experiencing during a stay. If you do it right, you’ll be as tired from the nights as you are from the slopes!
