Originally founded as a fishing village back in 1874, the town of Bayahibe is now better known as a tropical paradise on the south-eastern tip of the Dominican Republic. From soft, pearly white sands and clear turquoise waters to coral reefs and rum, it ticks all the boxes of a typical holiday to the Caribbean.

Many of the hotels in the Bayahibe area are all inclusive; which means you can enjoy all the Dominican food and cocktails you can manage! The national dish is called Bandera Dominicana. The Dominican Flag and features white rice, red beans and stewed meat with accessories such as avocado tostones green salad with tomato, or cooked eggplant stew.

The beaches of Bayahibe are one of the areas biggest draws, with two to choose from. Bayahibe beach to the North is home to an exciting coral reef just below the waters surface, whilst Domincus beach to the south is more paddling friendly thanks to its gently sloping sands into the water.

As beautiful as Bayahibe is, it is definitely worth getting involved in some of the local excursions that will give you a true taste of island life. For example; head out on a fishing trip where you'll learn how to reel in some of the local delicacies such as tuna, dorado or even barracuda. If you'd prefer something more laid back theres the annual mango festival; where you will be able to sample some of the Dominicans 100+ varieties of mango in all manner of ways from chutneys and cocktails (of course) to fish dishes and desserts, there is something for every palette to enjoy.
