Welcome to the Cidade Maravilhosa (that's 'marvellous city' in Portuguese) of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is a city that knows how to party, and party it does at the annual carnival. The pulse of samba music can be heard (and felt) all over town and the street party draws in revellers from every walk of life.

The traditional outfits worn to carnival celebrations are certainly a sight to behold too; with bedazzled headdresses, feathers and bright colours being the order off the day. The statue presiding over the Rio skyline in our design is Christ the Redeemer, and is considered one of the new 7 wonders of the world. Standing atop the Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park, it was erected in 1931 and has been something of a cultural icon ever since. At 28m wide, the outstretched arms are almost as wide as the statue is tall, which is 30m high. 

You may just have heard of Rio de Janeiro beach before, the Copacabana. It is one of the most famous sandy stretches in the world and has become something of a symbol to the city, spanning almost 4km along the Brazilian coastline. Its backed by a large promenade, which half closes to traffic on Sundays and holidays to make more room for activities along the beach.
