Singapore is a sovereign island city-state just off the coast of Malaysia in the Malay Peninsula. Although it is small, its packed with a wealth of culture and diversity. There are 4 official languages spoken English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil, reflecting the combination of Chinese and Western cultures. Singapore is also the birthplaces of the Singapore Sling. The gin-based cocktail was invented at the Raffles hotel sometime in the early 1900s, and has become wildly popular around the world.

Cultural activities primarily centre on art and music in Singapore, and there are many places where these can be enjoyed; such as the Singapore Art Museum, ArtScience Museum or National Gallery. Music culture includes every kid of style from classical to punk, classical playing the more significant role with the establishment of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 1979. There is also SingLit which is a collection of literary works written by Singaporeans in the country's four official languages.

The scene we have chosen of Singapore is over the Marina Bay Waterfront promenade. The large curved building on the left is the Marina Bay Sands resort, which was completed in 2011. It is made up of 3 towers that are 55 stories high, which are connected by the Sands Sky Park running across the top. The Sky Park is a bit of a haven for visitors and houses a swimming pool, gardens, observation deck, restaurants and a jogging path. To the right is the Singapore Flyer, Asias largest observation wheel that opened in 2008. Taking visitors 165 metres high, a 30 minute ride on the Flyer will give you some of the best views of Singapore, as well as delivering fun facts via an audio guide.
