Kingston "I'd Rather be in" poster print

Set along Jamaica’s southeast coast and backed by the Blue Mountains, Kingston is bursting at the seams with culture and easy Caribbean charm. The Jamaica flag consists of a gold cross that divides the flag into four sections of green and black, and is thought to be the only national flag not to contain the colours red, white, or blue. It was introduced in 1962 and an earlier interpretation of the colours was "hardships there are but the land is green and the sun shine" from a statement in a government Ministry Paper.

With a population of around 1.3 million (which is around half of Jamaica’s inhabitants) the varied nature of the area has long been an inspiration for artists, writers, athletes and musicians, including a certain Mr Bob Marley. Often touted as the island’s great export for reggae music, he remains a cultural hero to this day. Tourists can visit the Bob Marley Museum, which is based in his former home and features a photography gallery, 80-seat theatre , record shop and even the ‘One Love Café’ where visitors can enjoy some traditional Caribbean cuisine. 

There’s no beach in Kingston so many locals head out to Lime Cay, a beautiful desert island feeling cay just off the mainland where Kingstonians enjoy life and laughter (and occasionally a spot of ‘clothing optional’ sunbathing).  Jamaica is known for being the rum capital of the world, so it comes as no surprise to learn that Kingston has a thriving nightlife scene that’s perfect for bar hopping.
